Maggie Cooper
17/1/1947- 5/1/2021
It is with great sadness that we announce Maggie Cooper passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, 5th January.
Maggie was a member of The Algarveans for many years appearing in or helping with many of David Butler-Cole’s productions, the most memorable being her brilliant sketch “Benefits” in Flights of Fancy.
Maggie’s acting roles notably included
Jane Eyre – Bertha
Calendar Girls – Lady Cravenshire
As well as performing on stage Maggie willingly undertook any of the other hundreds of jobs needed off stage -she was often involved in props, costumes, helping on the bar and working front of house welcoming our audiences.
Maggie also served as a secretary on the Fiscal Committee for a number of years.
In accordance with Maggie’s wishes (who had already planned and prepared her funeral) she didn’t want a service, flowers or a fuss, so that is what is happening.
Due to Covid restrictions there will a a 10 minute quiet time allowed at the Crematorium in Albufeira Thursday 7th January at 3pm. Also due to restrictions only 10 of Maggie’s closest friends and carers will be allowed to attend.
The photo above is shared with us by her dear friend Wendy from Christmas 2019 and will be with Maggie tomorrow, together with some “words” written by a friend.
Maggie is now with Graham, may they both Rest in Peace.
They will be forever remembered by friends and loved ones especially in the words and music of Bruce Springsteen -“I’ll see you in my dreams”
God Bless
